In July 2002 Amcor acquired the PET and Closures businesses of Schmalbach-Lubeca, a global leader in its markets, headquartered in Ratingen, Germany. This acquisition, at a cost of around $2,875 million makes Amcor the largest PET manufacturer globally and a market leader in its chosen sectors.
